Coming from a Sri Lankan repatriate community with education only up to the 8th grade, I joined the Grihini Programme, where awareness songs, skits, and classes helped me understand caste, religion, women’s rights and social inequality. Grihini strengthened my literacy, communication and public-speaking skills and gave me the confidence to participate in social causes and stand up for my community. The programme helped me move beyond a life of daily wage labour and realise my potential. Today,I am proud to see my daughter pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and my son continuing his higher secondary education.
