Founded in 1987, the Kodai Grihini Women’s Education Program supports young women from some of the most marginalised communities in the Palani Hills of South India. Grihini offers education, care and opportunity to girls aged 14–24 who have had little or no access to schooling

For nearly 40 years, the program has helped more than 2,000 young women become literate, confident and informed about their health, rights and life choices. Participation in the program delays early marriage, contributes to family income and leads to positive change in their villages - improving education, health and wellbeing for future generations to come

The program has evolved from teaching basic literacy, numeracy and social awareness to offering government exam coaching, vocational training, internships, computer literacy, English language education and tertiary education scholarships. Graduates develop practical skills, financial literacy, confidence, leadership and an understanding of their rights, enabling them to secure employment, generate income and contribute to community development
